When natural disasters strike, power lines are often damaged or knocked down, leading to widespread electricity outages, leaving communities without electricity for extended periods. Natural disasters can wreak havoc on utility infrastructures, leaving a trail of destruction and significant challenges in their wake. Repairing and restoring power after such disasters can be a lengthy and complex process, requiring coordination between various agencies and the allocation of significant resources such as wire and cable.

At AWG, our emergency response capabilities set us apart from our competition.

In the face of disasters such as storms, hurricanes, earthquakes, fires, or any other emergency that results in unexpected service interruption, our team is available to respond and provide immediate material support. We support full recovery needs with our extensive inventory of wires, cables, and electrical accessories. These support services are available 24/7 in the aftermath of any disaster.

Hurricane Beryl

Hurricane Beryl made landfall in the US on July 8, 2024, leaving the Gulf Coast without power during one of the hottest weeks of summer. Utilities needed to respond swiftly and quickly to provide aid to the 3 million people without power following the storm.

Once the storm passed, American Wire Group’s Texas distribution center was able to immediately open its doors to aid in immediate restoration efforts. When our team began receiving requests from local utilities, we were able to confirm inventory on the spot, and ship product the next day. Customers received product within days to support storm recovery efforts.

Hurricane Sandy

When Hurricane Sandy hit the Northeastern United States in 2012, power lines were destroyed throughout the region.

The hurricane ended on a Friday morning, and AWG began receiving calls that evening for assistance in restoring felled power lines. Our staff rose to the challenge, working through the weekend to deliver more than $2 million in transmission and distribution lines from our stock, with the first 75% delivered in less than 24 hours.

Utility operators throughout the Northeast praised AWG for our support in restoring service to residents of New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Massachusetts.

In addition to Hurricane Beryl and Sandy, the AWG team has supported restoration and relief efforts during Hurricane Dorian, Hurricane Irma, Hurricane Maria, working closely with FEMA and utility providers throughout the United States and the Caribbean.
